Long Beach Jail System FAQ
- My loved one was arrested. Where will they be held?
Long Beach has four separate police divisions, situated north, south, east, and west. Each facility has the ability to temporarily detain or house individuals suspected of committing a crime. However, the majority of individuals are brought to the Long Beach Police Department headquarters, which is located at 400 West Broadway, Long Beach, California 90802. Detained suspects may be brought to a separate correctional institution. - Where and when can I visit my loved on in Long Beach jail?
No matter where your loved one is being detained, all visitations are completed at the police headquarters using a video conferencing system. Each visitor is permitted one 15-minute “visitation” per day, so it is encouraged that you work out a visitation schedule with your friends or family who may also want to visit them. Visitations are broken down into a schedule based on alleged crime. Felony visitation is 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily, misdemeanor is 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM daily, and trustee is 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM daily. - Can anyone visit a person in jail?
In order to visit someone who has been arrested and jailed in Long Beach, you must have a valid government identification and no open warrants in your name. You must also not have been arrested yourself within the previous 6 months, and you cannot visit someone who has been accused of hurting you through domestic violence. Lastly, one child may attend visitation so long as they are with an adult guardian. For more information about visiting or locating an inmate, call 562.570.7260. - When is the booking desk open?

The Long Beach City Jail is a “Type I” facility that can house 70 female inmates and 132 inmates, typically no longer than 96 hours (not counting holidays). At the end of the 96-hour period, an inmate should be either released if not charged or posted bail, or transferred to a prison system for as long as their criminal case is underway.
